Parry is an automatic response to an attack with a weapon. A parry's success is based on a point based stat-system. A successful parry avoids or mitigates damage done by a weapon whereas an unsuccessful parry will result in the full penalty for the weapon attack being applied. More briefly, if you miss your parry, you lose vitality and once your vitality reaches zero, you die and The Witcher ends.
