Hakland or Haakland is a land located east of the Tir Tochair and Fiery Mountains, beyond Elskerdeg Pass,[2] lying further than Zerrikania, which it borders in the northeast.[3]
Some Nordlings believe the Haak to be the people mentioned in one of the Ithlinne's Prophecy apocrypha, according to which there would come a time when riders from the East would arrive like a storm, to burn, slaughter, and feast on the ruins, drinking from the skulls of their fallen enemies.[3]
History
Horse warriors from Hakland attacked the Northern Kingdoms sometime before the 13th century.[4]
According to the Nilfgaardian Encyclopaedia Maxima Mundi, the event known as Haak Invasion took place in 1350.[5]
Society and Culture
Haak people are said to be the finest horsemen in the world, learning the art as babies before they even learn to walk.[3] They are also remarkable archers and combining this with excellence in horsemanship, they become formidable warriors.[6]
Economy
Exports include smooth silk, sold for large sums in Redania,[7] and aragonite, a rare carbonate mineral only found in Hakland.[8]
