Rennes was Grandmaster of the School of the Wolf during the period when the school was funded by the Kaedwenian crown, alongside the School of the Cat.[1]
Biography
During the time when both the Wolf and Cat schools were receiving financial support from King Radowit II, the king ordered emotional integration measures to take place between the two schools, followed by an examination in the form of a tournament to determine which school would continue to receive funding. Rennes reluctantly complied with the order, despite his reservations about the philosophical differences between the two schools.
Before the tournament, Rennes and the leader of the Cat School, Treyse, were summoned by Kaedwenian soldiers to investigate a murder scene. At the site, accusations were leveled against the witchers when the soldiers claimed the body bore wounds consistent with a witcher's blade. However, Rennes argued that a soldier's blade could leave similar marks. When two Wolf School medallions were discovered near the victim, the accusations intensified. Rennes was ordered to send Vesemir to the palace.
On his way back to the Wolf camp, Rennes brooded over the situation, blaming Vesemir for failing to keep the students disciplined and for potentially causing trouble. Rennes had hoped he had been summoned to be offered a prestigious position at the king's court, perhaps even as a fencing instructor for the royal children. However, upon reaching the camp, he angrily told Vesemir that, if necessary, they would sacrifice both the students and the school itself to secure their future. When Vesemir failed to return, Rennes believed he had deserted.
On the day of the tournament, events proceeded as planned until the Cat School witchers sprang their trap, subduing the Wolf witchers in preparation for their execution by Kaedwenian soldiers. Unbeknownst to the Cats, King Radowit II had secretly intended to eliminate all of the witchers present. In the ensuing betrayal, Rennes was killed alongside both the Cat and Wolf witchers. Only Geralt of Rivia managed to survive the massacre.[1]
