- Scheyli's sarcastically about cell visits, A Book of Tales

Scheyli was a Bobolak who grew tired of her life in a mountain village and, together with her good friend Neniz, decided to explore the world.[1]

Biography

Scheyli grew up in a Bobolak village in the South Mahakam Mountains. After a family of vrans migrated to the village, seeking shelter from a nonhuman pogrom, Scheyli befriended their daughter, Neniz.

Sharing her desire to see the world beyond their snowy home, Scheyli agreed to Neniz's idea of stealing a prized dwarven relic, Cursetter's Hammer, to finance their adventures. The two ordered a similar-looking hammer from a local smith to replace the stolen relic, then set out to steal it during the Mahakam Ale Festival.

Being familiar with the area around Mount Carbon, the two managed to sneak into Cursetter's Cavern. However, they encountered Brodogar Farrag as he had just stolen the hammer. Panicking at the sight of Scheyli and Neniz, Farrag smashed one of the support pillars and fled. As the cavern partially collapsed, Neniz was trapped under a heap of stones. Scheyli, ignoring a large shard of flint embedded in her stomach, performed first aid on her wounded friend. Dwarven guards arrived shortly afterward and, finding Rendal Harkus, a guard, dead under the rubble, immediately suspected Scheyli and Neniz of the theft and murder.

The pair was imprisoned in a secure cell with a spectacular view of the mountain, from which they were to be thrown after a show trial. However, the trial and execution were postponed due to Neniz's injuries, as the execution would only proceed once she recovered. Although Scheyli's wounds healed quickly due to the rapid metabolism of her people, she continued to wear her bandages for appearance's sake.

While imprisoned, Rendal's sister, Enid Harkus, visited the pair along with an outside party she had hired to investigate the case. Rumors had begun to circulate that Rendal might have been involved in the theft. During their questioning, Scheyli and Neniz admitted to planning the theft and even commissioning a forgery of the hammer. However, they insisted they never had the chance to execute their plan or kill the guard, as Brodogar had already stolen the hammer before they could act. Scheyli also revealed she could escape the cell whenever she wanted, as she had lockpicks hidden in her fur, but refused to leave Neniz behind despite her fear of the looming execution.

Eventually, the real culprit, Brodogar Farrag, was apprehended by the investigating party, clearing Scheyli and Neniz of both the murder of Rendal and the theft of the hammer.[1]
