Sorel was a witcher in charge of training at Kaer Morhen and was also a member of the witcher council of the school.

Biography

Sorel was a witcher from the School of the Wolf and eventually rose through the ranks to be in charge of training the witcher recruits at the time Geralt was a trainee there. A group of witchers from a school beyond the mountains visited the Wolf School, and Sorel welcomed them as cousins. He then had one of the visiting witchers, Adela, spar with Geralt. As Geralt mostly used evasive maneuvers and tricks, Sorel admonished him and told him to fight properly. After Geralt let Adela win, Sorel informed him that he was to appear before the witcher council.

At the council, they sentenced Geralt, Gascaden, and Clovis for using elixirs without supervision and for fighting. After the other two were sent away, Sorel handled the other charges brought against Geralt. After Geralt spoke for himself, Sorel told him that a verdict would be reached later. During the punishment, Sorel informed Geralt that he had been found not guilty and would receive his first and last warning.

Sorel later divided Osbert's training duties among other instructors, assigning Klef to be in charge of Geralt. He was later present at a meeting of the witcher council with the school's priests, where he argued that Geralt was a renegade witcher and suggested that something had gone wrong during his mutation process.

After the meeting, Geralt returned from the mountains with the body of Klef, who had died attempting to kill him. Sorel inquired about what had happened and then ordered Geralt imprisoned until a verdict would be reached. At the next meeting with the priests, Sorel demanded that Geralt be killed as a renegade. When the priests argued for sparing Geralt, Sorel said that the younger witchers would never accept such a verdict. He then pressured Vesemir to resign and let Yarov take over the council, as Vesemir was old and sick. Vesemir agreed on the condition that Geralt be released from imprisonment. Sorel and the other witchers agreed but refused to train Geralt further.

Afterward, one of the other instructors explained to Sorel what had happened during Geralt's mutations. Some time later, Adela came to Sorel to inform him about Geralt, although she did not speak; her information upset Sorel, and he told her to leave.

When Geralt's, Gascaden's, and Clovis's training was complete, Sorel presided over the ceremony where they received their swords, herbs, and medallions. He had one final surprise: he announced that in special cases, an extra trial would be performed and declared that Geralt would face Thornwald in combat—which Geralt won.
